In Class Notes: Wednesday

It's kind of difficult remembering the projects presented wednesday but from what i do recall it looked like several people had done projects that made people squirm or angry and I felt like that may had been the best approach to the project looking back. ((Politics are hard to make funny)) I remember Tompson's ((I know thats not how you spell her name ._. )) project the one with the signs and was glad to find out that she did get some feedback and intends to do her project on a larger scale.

Politics Reading:

Questions
  • I've read about The Castle is Burning project before and I heard it caused quite an uproar and disarray within the Cornell University; are all of his projects done in this manner?
  • How is he still allowed to do projects if they cause such problems in the areas they're shown?
  • Whats up with the museum badges being part of the sentence and some having the whole thing?

Comments and thoughts
  • In the choosing a mission section I was thinking that artist can also change their missions with ease as compared to the others.
  • How he's able to still make work now makes sense now seeing as the establishments he presents in ask for him to present a project.
  • It's very interesting to read about how casually Martinez goes about his projects but how big and how long the social waves keep the projects alive despite all the negative comments about them.
Questions afterwards
  • I'm really wondering about how angry people get about his projects when I am just getting a small laugh of watching the carnage his art work caused. Is it real that big of a deal to get that mad about his work its just to get people talking.
  • How did he keep people arguing about the ideas his projects brought up for so long?
  • Are there any forums or websites dedicated to his pieces?

Gallery Visits

Perspective Eye Gallery
It was really interesting to see how we affect the environment with plastics and it was rather sad to see how much we actually harm other things inadvertently. Makes you wonder how many things you've affected.

BFA Illustration Show

I went to crown commons this morning to check out the illustration BFA show must say I was very impressed. It was really nice to see that companies were already taking a look a students for work.

Cai Guo-Qiang: Art 21

I really like the way that Gou-Qiang uses fire works and weak explosives in his work, and how unsettlingly calm he is about it. It really helps speak about the disarray seen in his countries' government. The other works were a little bit odd, such as the bizarre suspended cars.

Class Notes: Wednesday

When we we're watching the videos I noticed that a lot of things in Mexican and Native American culture cross over and I'm wondering if are ignorant to just group them together, I'm sure that both sides get rather irritated with this if that is the case.

Class Notes: Monday

We took a look at political posters for the up and coming political project as well as had several good discussions related to people that have affected politics recently, such as Bill Cosby and George Takei.

Also I figured out politics is a very very broad topic.
